About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Deputy Charge Nurse to join our team at White Cross Whangārei.

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior Registered Nurse looking to take the next step in their career while continuing to maintain a strong clinical focus. As Deputy Charge Nurse, you will combine hands on patient care with leadership responsibilities, supporting the Charge Nurse and wider nursing team to deliver safe, high quality, patient centred care.

As our service continues to grow and expand access to healthcare within the Whangārei community, you will play an important role in supporting clinical excellence, fostering a positive team culture, and ensuring patients receive timely and accessible healthcare. In the absence of the Charge Nurse, you will step into an acting leadership capacity while remaining actively involved in day to day clinical care.

Our clinic will soon be open from 8am to 11pm, so availability to work in-hours and afterhours will be required.

What You Will Do

As a valued member of the clinical leadership team, you will:

  • Deliver high quality, patient centred nursing care.
  • Undertake comprehensive patient assessments and nursing interventions.
  • Support the management of acute presentations, long term conditions, and preventative healthcare programmes.
  • Assist with immunisations, wound care, health screenings, and other clinical procedures within your scope of practice.
  • Provide professional leadership and support to nursing team members.
  • Promote best practice, clinical quality, and safe patient care.
  • Support the Charge Nurse in the day to day operation of nursing services.
  • Act in the Charge Nurse capacity when required.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
  • Foster strong multidisciplinary relationships with clinicians, nurses, and support teams.

What You Will Bring

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
  • A minimum of three to five years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Previous experience within Primary Care, Urgent Care, Emergency Care, or a similar clinical environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience or the ability to support and guide other nurses.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to delivering culturally safe, patient centred care.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure.
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare delivery.

The following would be advantageous:

  • Current Authorised Vaccinator certification.
  • Experience with wound care, casting, and acute nursing presentations.
  • Experience using MedTech Evolution or a similar patient management system.
