About the job

CHT Care Homes is a trusted, not-for-profit organisation with over 60 years of experience supporting older New Zealanders. With 21 homes across the North Island, we’re proudly values-led—centred on care, compassion, comfort, companionship and connectedness.

Are you a qualified Diversional Therapist with a big heart, creative ideas and a passion for making every day meaningful? We’re looking for someone who can lead from the front, be a true team player and bring energy, creativity and enthusiasm to the lives of our residents.

This is so much more than an activities role. It’s an opportunity to create meaningful moments, build connections, spark joy and make a genuine difference every single day. From organising engaging activities and discovering new interests to creating those small moments that brighten someone’s day, your work will have a real and lasting impact.

And then there’s Waiuku. Located in a charming rural town with strong community ties, our 60-bed care home offers a relaxed, welcoming environment where you can really get to know our residents, your colleagues and the wider community.

If you’re a natural leader, a team player, full of ideas and someone who loves bringing people together, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver individual and group activities that meet residents’ needs
  • Encourage social interaction and participation, and document activity outcomes
  • Maintain activity supplies and monthly activity schedules
  • Follow health and safety requirements and report incidents
  • Work collboratively with the care team to improve the activity programme

Key Attributes

  • Compassionate and empathetic toward older people
  • Confident facilitating group activities with good communication skills
  • Friendly, professional, and a supportive team member
  • Willing to learn, follow guidance, and show leadership when needed

Benefits of working at CHT

  • Long service leave and recognition for your commitment
  • An annual shoe voucher—because comfort matters
  • Ongoing training, development, and leadership opportunities
  • Wellbeing initiatives and EAP support
  • The reassurance of working for a not-for-profit that reinvests in its people, care homes, and resident experience

If you’re looking for purposeful caregiving work in a beautiful location—and want to be part of a supportive, values-driven team—this is the place for you. Join us at CHT and bring comfort, care, and connection to our residents every day
