Chief Advisor — Assessment Measurement and ModellingHelp shape fair, credible and future-focused assessment for learners across Aotearoa New ZealandLocation: Wellington, New ZealandAbout the roleNew Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is looking for a highly experienced educational measurement specialist to provide senior psychometrics leadership across secondary school assessment and certification.In this influential role, you will set the technical direction for assessment measurement, calibration and modelling processes that support fair, consistent and defensible outcomes for learners. You will tackle complex measurement questions, translate technical evidence into clear advice, and help NZQA make confident decisions in a changing assessment environment.What you'll leadAssessment measurement, calibration and standards setting that underpin confidence in assessment outcomes.Advanced modelling and analysis using real-world assessment data to inform high-stakes system decisions.Evaluation of AI-supported approaches used in assessment development, marking and related processes.The provision of clear, trusted advice for senior technical and non-technical audiences, including governance forums and external partners.Peer review, quality assurance and capability uplift across measurement, modelling and analytical work.What you'll bringExtensive senior experience in psychometrics, statistical modelling, educational measurement, quantitative evaluation or a closely related field.Deep expertise in assessment measurement principles, calibration approaches and technical standards that support comparability, reliability and fairness.Proven ability to lead through technical authority, influence best practice and guide expert analytical work.Strong judgement on emerging analytical methods, including AI-supported approaches, validation, risk and appropriate controls.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to turn complex technical findings into practical advice for decision-makers.Strong capability with analytical and modelling tools such as R.A minimum of a Master's degree in psychometrics, statistics, mathematics, educational measurement, quantitative psychology, data science or a related discipline.
