At the Christchurch City Council, our love for our city inspires us as we constantly strive to make it an even better place to live, work and play.

Are you an experienced STMS professional looking to take the next step in your career? Do you enjoy being out in the field, solving problems, building strong relationships, and making a real impact on how temporary traffic management is delivered across the city?

We're looking for an Assurance Officer to join our Temporary Traffic Management team, playing a key role in helping keep Christchurch moving safely and efficiently while ensuring the needs of our communities, road users and stakeholders remain at the forefront of decision making.

About the role | Ko te mahi nei

As an Assurance Officer, you'll be the Council's eyes and ears across the network, providing a visible on-site presence and helping ensure temporary traffic management activities are delivered safely, effectively and to a high standard.

Working across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula, you'll monitor temporary traffic management associated with road works, events and incidents, providing guidance and influence to support positive outcomes for road users, contractors, event organisers and the wider community. You'll work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, balancing competing needs while maintaining a strong focus on safety, network performance and customer experience.

This is a varied role where no two days are the same. You could be carrying out assurance activities in the field, investigating customer concerns, responding to incidents, supporting major events, resolving on-site issues, or identifying opportunities to improve how temporary traffic management is delivered across the network.

If you enjoy being out on the network, building relationships and making sound decisions in dynamic environments, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the city while working alongside a highly regarded and supportive team.

About you | Ko Koe Tēnei

You'll bring practical temporary traffic management experience, strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in both planned and reactive situations.

To Be Successful In This Role, You'll Have

  • An ABC or Level 2/3 STMS qualification (Practising or Non-Practising)
  • Experience within temporary traffic management, civil construction, roading maintenance, infrastructure or a related industry
  • A strong understanding of traffic management practices and standards
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Sound judgement and the ability to assess situations and make informed decisions
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement
  • A full New Zealand Driver Licence

Most importantly, you'll be a collaborative and solutions-focused professional who enjoys working with others to achieve positive outcomes while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.

What's in it for you? | He aha ngā hua ki a koe?

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of temporary traffic management in New Zealand and make a genuine impact on the safe and efficient movement of people throughout Christchurch.

You'll join a respected team that prides itself on professionalism, collaboration and doing the right thing. In return, you'll enjoy meaningful work, opportunities for ongoing development, and the chance to contribute directly to the ongoing growth and transformation of our city.

When you join us, you're getting involved first-hand and contributing to shaping Christchurch's future. You'll also benefit from:

  • Training, development and career progression opportunities
  • Flexible working arrangements where appropriate
  • Health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits
  • Access to a range of retail and partner discounts
  • The opportunity to work with experienced professionals across a diverse range of projects, events and stakeholders
