Associate Charge Nurse Manager - Mental Health Bureau

• Acute mental health wards - Henry Rongomau Bennett Centre - soon to be relocating to a new purpose built, contemporary facility
• Permanent – 20 hours per week
• Rostered after hours work which includes weekends and afternoons

About the Role

The Associate Charge Nurse Manager (ACNM) is a key senior role within our HRBC afterhours co-ordination team and is responsible for providing leadership and support after hours.

The ACNM will work in close collaboration with the Charge Nurse Manager of the mental health bureau to manage bureau staff activities and also manage and provide leadership after hours across all Mental Health & Addiction Services, including HRBC inpatient services, OPR1 and after hours community teams

Key responsibilities of the role:

• manage emergency response situations in conjunction with the campus duty manager.
• facilitate and coordinate the safe and efficient flow of taangata whaiora into and out of the inpatient service afterhours.
• facilitate and coordinate staff resources to meet the demands of the service.

Responsibilities of the role:

• Supports the CNM to build a high performing team that upholds the culture, values, mission and vision of the service.
• Assists with the management of the workflow and workload across the clinical area, including after hours.
• Provides clinical leadership and oversight for areas as delegated by the CNM.
• Engage and work collaboratively with all stakeholders, particularly taangata whaiora and whaanau.

About the Team or Service

It’s the perfect time to join our team. We have a brand new facility being built which will be ready for occupancy in December 2026. You will work in a state of the art purpose built facility, where we will be delivering a service which is culturally led and clinically underpinned. Our new facility consists of two large units, each with their own high dependency areas and represents one of the most significant investments in acute adult inpatient mental health services in Waikato.

While it introduces a contemporary purpose-built facility, its true significance lies in the opportunity to redefine how care is experienced by taangata whaiora, their whaanau and loved ones.

About you

As an Associate Charge Nurse Manager you will:

• Be competent with te ao Maaori, tikanga, and te reo Maaori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
• Experience in upholding Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Maatauranga Maaori and Kaupapa Maaori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
• A Registered Nurse with at least 4 years’ experience in a mental health environment
• A post graduate certificate with a focus on mental health
• Ability to display initiative and resourcefulness that will allow you to navigate the variety of challenges you could face
• Ability to work weekends and after hours
• Sound clinical judgement and decision making capability
